Christina Sgouromiti holds an MA in Drawing and BA Hons in Painting from Camberwell College of Art, University of the Arts, London. She is currently a PhD candidate at the Athens Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Art Theory and History The research subject examines the role of art communities in transitional societies, with a focus on post civil war Greece.
She has worked extensively with artists’ groups and cross-field collaborations, mainly in the form of site-specific installations. (AREA10, ARTIVISTS, Under Construction Group, Locus Solus, Christian Boltanski at South London Gallery)
A solo show was held in Clarion Contemporary Art, London (2006), while she has participated in several group shows in Athens and abroad. Some recent ones: National Bank of Greece Historical Archives (visiting artist) (curator M. Lembessi), Die Helling (edit cur. Erica Meijers), Rematerialising Culture, Kakoyannis Institute (cur. M. Kataga) (2015). At his secret island, Zoumboulakis Galleries (cur. A. Razis), Minimum structure, Romantso (cur. A. She has received awards and grants from Heraclitus European Research Fund, Leventis Foundation, IOI Open Image Contest, CIMA project space, ERT-EDN.
She has taught art classes as visiting professor in various state institutions, the American University (2008-2010) and the Athens Academy of Fine Arts (2015-2016). In 2011 she was appointed Arts Coordinator at Mithymna Municipal Gallery, in Lesvos.
